The Discovery Process - How to Become a Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop Franchisee

We offer a one of a kind business opportunity that is fun, viable and personally rewarding. However, finding the right "fit" is what is most important to us. Therefore, we have a dedicated team and a comprehensive "discovery" process, to help you determine whether or not Ben & Jerry’s would be a great fit for you.

It is important to note that throughout our entire process we will be providing you with lots of information and answering all your questions regarding our franchise program. We will also learn as much as we can about you, your background, your business acumen, and goals. Below, we have outlined the specific steps in our discovery process:

STEP ONE (Initial Phase)

  • Initial inquiry received by Ben & Jerry’s
  • If qualified, a representative from Ben & Jerry’s will contact you within 48 business hours to further qualify and potentially schedule an initial call.
  • Initial call will be scheduled and conducted for qualified candidates, using our unique online virtual brochure.
  • A follow-up call will be conducted to further discuss the franchise opportunity. If mutual interest to move forward still exists, then our application must be completed.
  • Upon receiving a completed and qualified application, we will mail you our current Franchise Disclosure Document.
  • An application review call will be conducted to review your background and work experience.
  • If strong mutual interest continues, we will open up our entire franchise network to you. You will be able to contact and visit as many of our franchisees as you choose. This will give you an opportunity to hear “first-hand” what it is like to be a Ben & Jerry’s franchisee.
  • A call will be conducted to discuss and review the outcome of all your calls and visits with our franchisees.

STEP TWO (You Are Now Considered A Serious Qualified Candidate)

  • An in-depth interview is scheduled to further discuss your strategy and business plans as it pertains to markets of interest, number of stores, real estate, marketing ideas, infrastructure, etc. Time is also spent answering questions pertaining to our FDD.
  • At this stage in our process, if the “fit”, qualifications, and interest level are strong, we will invite you to join us at an upcoming Discovery Day, held at our corporate headquarters in Burlington, VT.

STEP THREE (Final Step In Our Process)

  • Attend Discovery Day. This is a great experience. You meet all of us and we get to meet you. You will have a chance to confirm everything you think you already know about Ben & Jerry’s, plus much more. At the end of Discovery Day, there should be nothing else to know. You will now be able to make a fully informed decision on whether or not Ben & Jerry’s is a great “fit” for you. Within 24 hours of attending Discovery Day, the executive team at Ben & Jerry’s will decide if an approval will be extended to you to become a franchisee.
  • You will be notified of our decision within 48 hours of attending Discovery Day.
  • If you decide to join our franchise network, you will need to sign a Preliminary Agreement or a Development Agreement within 30 days of your formal approval.
  • Our support team will assist you from this point forward, through grand opening and beyond.
